"Diamond"
An onlooker in a field
Inspecting terrain
Comparing and finding
Nothing making way,
Nothing coming into being to be found
That is worthy enough,
Unique enough. Who needs all these commonalities,
Such as flowers.
When the true glory is found in the unknown?
Suddenly a sparkle reflected in your eyes
Glistening, rather,
Glowing. You pick it up
Inspecting a curious delight
-a diamond-
one that you had never known to be
one that you had never known to see or to speak of
or to have imagined to find along your walk.
I fell tiny into your grasp
Skeptical of change and sincerity
Who is this
That feels duty to take me from my grounding
And distribute my roots quite farther into the earth?
After soon I became settled
And didn’t have to wonder,
For I was enough wonder
And you were enough to wonder about.
Suppose I would have stayed
Suppose you would have never found me
To think an inch of a step of a journey
Changes all
In that one inch, I was yours
But I was yours from the start.
The courage it takes to pull from the rough
Where many other splendid things need not hide
Like lilies, and roses, and daffodils
A few steps away-
Yet a diamond, you say, was all that you were hoping for.
