Remembering

One last word and hug: I love you my dear
A moment more, and he’s no longer here
So much he will be missed, that much is clear
At the grave, her eyes shrouded in a blear
All the consolations she can barely hear
Rolling down her cheek, sorrowful is the tear
All the times they shared; the memories are near
Forgetting them is what she will fear,
Though in her heart, among grief and drear
Is where his presence will always inhere.

The death of my grandfather and great-grandma inspired me to write this. I would like it to help remind people that even when a loved one is lost, memories of them will always help us keep their presence in our hearts. Although we can be overwhelmed with sadness of them no longer being in our lives in the physical sense, they will continue to be in our thoughts and actions.

Your words made me think of loss and love. To grieve is a gift it means we loved and were loved. Such a beautiful poem. You are wise beyond your years.
