Highway
Written in blood
and scratches and dents
the story of life unfolds.
Out in the open
or out far away
for anyone to read or be told.
Snaking its way
up and about
with no visible end in sight
a place of wonder
of terror and dread
where survival is always a fight.
Often times crowded
and other times alone
sitting quietly from dawn to dark
a haven for secrets
untold and unseen
with no definite trail or mark.
Seldom used through the night
due to stories and fear
all travel is saved for the day
stretching towards the horizon
beautiful in its purpose
the humble, the simple highway.
