So I found a little, uh,
Dandelion on the ground
It looked real nice, so I
I plucked it
I took it with me
Just to look at, of course
But, you know,
I killed the flower
To appreciate its beauty.
So anyways
I fried the thing
Turns out, dandelions
Taste pretty good
So now, I just
I killed the flower
To appreciate its beauty
And eat it.
I'm sorry, dandelion.

I am a senior at Decatur High school. I wrote this piece when learning about dandelions being edible, which helped me feel less bad about picking up dandelions and looking at them. I've yet to cook & eat one, though...
