Before the 19th Amendment

state laws prohibited women from owning and inheriting property,

signing contracts, serving on juries, and voting in elections

prohibited from working and having their own income 

After the 19th Amendment

 experienced economic progress as a result,

 secured the vote for middle-class white women 

offered women of color, especially Black women, 

little more than an empty promise.

due to family-planning services and supplies
