The Feeling of Vacation

You feel your ears pop, your head feels stuck and stuffed

Suddenly you feel yourself back on earth,

Eagerly, you rush out after being stuck in for four hours,

Feeling peaceful pleasant air across your body.

You feel the 90-degree sun on your pale, peachy skin.

It feels like you have never experienced a vacation before.

You pull your 70-pound suitcase up to the 13th floor,

as you walk into the bright ocean blue and sandy tan walls.

These walls have surrounded you every vacation.

You rush into the light yellow room that has never changed.

Your tan and pink bed reminds me of being a little girl,

Playing mermaids with your brothers in the pool,

While your mom begged you to put sunscreen on.

Waking up at 6 a.m. to go on walks with your mom,

You collect beautiful, brilliant shells.

Sitting on the patio, playing Kings Corners with your dad,

you realize you are now 18, graduating from high school.

You realize your parents are at home,

your oldest brother is halfway across the country.

You realize you finally got what you dreamed and dreamt of:

to go on vacation with your friends

to be mature and “cool”

to grow up before you were ready too.

Growing up is letting go, of the memories that won't repeat
