Man and Beast (Cement Dog)
Sit on the porch
You notice many things
The sound of children playing
And the smell of fresh-cut grass
Across the street
A man flattening cement
A drink right behind him
A Coke in a Koozie
He reaches back, works finished
The roar of engines and the barking of a dog
White fur streaks down the sidewalk.
His headphones blaring Metallica
Splashing, sploshing, and slapping of the wet cement
Coke spits through the air
The beast ruins his work
Screams of Profanity
Chasing the vile quadruped
out of the formerly freshly flattened cement
A porch is an interesting place
Where things can happen that you don’t see every day
Especially in this world
