Trying to write poetry
on days when
your headaches blend
with the hum of the refrigerator,
and your body feels like clay,
and your skin burns at the touch,
is like
making a bird go on a hike.
He'd rather fly,
but he can hop,
and cover some ground,
though he hates the hop.
