I.
There is an inability to write
poetry that comes when I'm
happy. I think it's because
I'm not actually a poet writing
poems but instead a girl
desperately crying for help
II.
My Christmas list has always been
packed to the brim with
titles and authors and anything
that could help me escape this moment
It wasn't until I unwrapped the paper
on the twenty-fifth under the tree
and the only book I'd been given
was a commentary by Niel deGrasse Tyson
that I realized
my life was finally sweeter than fiction
