They say only sticks and stones can break your bones

Naive and innocent you believed it

Cause nobody warned you that words have blades

As you got older experience taught you elsewise

Cutlass jibes are still bound to puncture, no matter the blitz

They leave you a wound too severe for simple bandaids

Convinced you impaled yourself

Blind to their fingers grasping the handle

Pull it out, watch them smirk as you lose your balance

Now crumbling to the floor, a pool of crimson

Former naivety for once was right

You’ll finally believe that wise old saying

Even though stones have force and sticks leave scratches

If those words have taught you anything

It’s a lot easier to heal with broken bones

The author's comments:

I was in a bit of a writing slump when I decided to type out anything I could. I just started writing sentences and rearranging them for about thirty minutes before I finally found a flow in the lines. I didn't expect to get an actual piece out of it, much less a submittable one. However i'm really happy with where I went with this.
