Where people travel to see water flowing from boulders on the other side of the earth.

When we rejoice once a year watching a sparkly ball drop from a pole and then kiss loved ones.

How we sit for hours staring at a small handheld rectangle that allows us to stay entertained.

The world we live in.

Where we cry looking at math equations.

How we look at the back of a box and stare at the number under the word “calories”.

How we go to the beach longing to be a darker shade so people can comment on your skin tone.

The world we live in.

Where I’m not phased anymore if I read a notification about a crime happening around us.

Where you’re judged if someone asks which box you checked on your ballot.

How I jump whenever I hear a bang sound outside the classroom door.

How I watch the talking box in our living room, telling me that our earth is on fire.

That we need to do something.

That we are running out of time.

But you see it’s all just an illusion.

Something you don’t need to worry about.

They say “we will be fine, this has happened before”.

Nothing we can’t fix, right?

Or is that really just the world we live in.
