you taught me about cars

you showed me what became my favorite books

you stayed up late with me to watch a show you thought I'd like (those are my favorites)

you showed me how a father was supposed to look

you were there when he wasn't 

you protect my mom and still manage to bring in so much laughter

my last name is yours in my heart

and I can say without a doubt that I'm proud to call myself your daughter

Dad, did you know

if it weren't for our last names, they'd think I was yours by blood

You're my nerdy best friend who's always down to play a game in the basement 

or talk about random storylines and music tastes and my days at school

and I know I'm just your step-daughter, but you've always loved me as your own

You're my Dad, for time and all eternity and I love you so much more than you know
