Routine
Jolt awake to chimes
telling me to begin.
Ignorantly interrupting illusive images.
Sluggishly stroll, staring blankly.
Freezing Fahrenheit forces focus.
Fixate eyes on screens,
cram in more information.
Focus attention on papers.
Refuel the body by
consuming carbohydrates, carrots, colas.
Entertain everyone. Think about
that test later today.
Write your name, hour.
Silently sit, stare senselessly.
Answer questions - words spinning -
don’t mess it up.
Finally return home. Free.
Open books back up,
you’re not done yet.
Fill out worthless worksheets.
Seek entertainment, escaping reality.
Brush teeth. Get comfortable.
Turn off the light.
Slip into sweet slumber.
