sempre pianissimo e senza sordini

You can sense the hushed

Breathing of the breeze

Through hollow reeds

As the lilies close,

A deep sigh to the soft stars

And to the great globe

That glows in her eyes

Reflected on ponds of water

And deep blue pools alike

Framed with reeds and lashes

And the opening notes

A triad, a harmony

As the light softly filters

From a cloudless star-struck sky

Through the papery branches

Of pale white birch

But you looked at her

Like she was the sun

You only ever squinted in

Bright anger

Or wore shades to hide

Your eyes from her

Sunscreen covering your skin

Untouchable

You didn't look at her

Like she was the moon

Beautiful, glowing

The definition of romance

Celestial radiance in her hair

You looked at her

Like she was the sun

So she is, now

She's the burning, scorching sun

She is needed

To grow you, to nurture you, to feed you

And in the beauty of the sunset

When her back is turned

You'll wonder how you never

Saw her

Before

This piece isn't autobiographical, the metaphor was just fun to write.

thank you @Lydiaq!
For reference, if anyone reads this and wonders, the first line is the dynamic directions for the piano piece Moonlight Sonata, and it means that it's always quiet. The poem is meant to be quiet love and quiet anger.
