I wrote a poem about colors when I was six

I think I said that purple is pretty

And that dinosaurs are green

I think there is something to be said for writing the same poem

As you did when you were six

That was some fancy commentary on innocence

I’m done being deep now

So, I Am Going To Write Something Bad

And maybe you will Smile

And maybe I sound like American Pie with a pink carnation and a pick up truck

And I knew I was out of luck, the day the school shut down

So bye, bye, Ms. American Society

Now you must think I’m all old and boring.  I promise I’m not.

See, anyway, pink is a color

I am off to a good start

And that is very Good

Well, that you are smiling

Not that I sound like American Pie

Here’s a colorful poem

Because we all need some color commentary right now

Expect some more bad puns

Ow

Let’s start with red

Red as in reddit, and the red lines on stock market charts caused by it

Red like a Coca Cola can

Red like Mickey Mouse’s pants

Red as in wow do I need to go on vacation already, I miss spilling food and then being stuck with a red stain on my shirt for the next week

Now let’s talk about orange

Which is notoriously difficult to rhyme

The last president was orange

And maybe mentioning him made you see red

Wait, that was the last color on my list

Moving on

Jar Jar binks is orange, and 2020 was even worse than Jar Jar

There, I said it, something’s worse than Jar Jar

And if you didn’t get the Star Wars reference, first, I don’t how you made it this far

And second, at least now you have something do this weekend

Since there is literally nothing to do

Yellow is bright and cheerful

Clearly, it hasn’t read the room anytime in the past year

Good for you yellow for sticking to your guns

Yellow is the color of mustard

I am proud of all of us for mustering the nerve to keep moving forward this year

And I think mustard is also quite tasty

This is what one does in quarantine- think about food

Green is the color of I’m about to throw up

Which is much more on the nose

Wait, don’t touch your nose.  Sorry I said that.  Now your nose probably itches and it’s my fault.  Sorry.

Maybe we could use a green screen to turn this year into a movie

With the way everything is going right now, we’d probably just end up summoning the Green Goblin.  Seriously, if you didn’t get that, I am giving you movie homework to catch up on.  Jeez.  I’m turning green now

Blue is the color of face masks

And of zoom icons

And of how Covid has made everyone feel

So, now you have a clue about how important blue is

That was supposed to be a pun.  Laugh now.  This has made everyone nostalgic for things like restaurants and times where seeing other human beings wasn’t so rare and even Blue’s Clues.

Someday, an exhibit about this time will be in the Natural History Museum with the big blue whale

Purple is pretty

And isn’t really on many things, I kind of don’t know what to say here

Purple is pretty, and that makes me happy

Maybe that will make you happy too

My dog is black and white

Old movies are too

Issues are seldom black and white, which is why we all have a hard time working out problems

Even people have colors, and that is great too

So here’s a poem brought to you by a six year old and a sixteen year old and maybe even a sixty year old
