their eyes

like rock pools,

not quite like

the oceans,

or the seas,

but still enough

to make me

drown.

sharp,

soulful,

as if

full of thought.

eyes

are the window

of the soul,

after all.

when their eyes

met mine,

and their stare

matched mine,

i knew,

instantly.

some stories

are best told

without

words,

some things

are best left

unheard.

The author's comments:

This poem was inspired by my ex-significant other's gray-blue eyes. We broke up about 2 weeks ago, we have decided to stay friends. They had many stories, especially ones that were hard for them to tell.

Writing poetry was a way for me to cope with the loss of a relationship, but the beginning of a new, platonic one.
