"There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story within you." - Dr. Maya Angelou

What does it mean to be brave?

It means there’s a tsunami in your head

A wall of dark water drowning your mind

but you do it anyway.

You can do it. Just go.

It means there’s a storm in your heart

A drum roll of thunder, lightning lashing at the cage of your ribs

but you do it anyway.

This is who I am.

It means there’s tangles of black vines

Rooting your feet to the ground, covering your mouth

but you do it anyway.

This is what needs to be said.

It means you’re afraid to jump off

come out, stand up

but you do it anyway.

You can fly, little bird, you just don’t know how.

It means you’re brave enough to learn.

Underestimate me because you can’t see my wings

I’ll spread them wide and soar higher

then you ever thought I could.

This piece is about being brave inside even though you're scared and don't think you are. And about how sometimes the bravest thing anyone can do is to be yourself and live by your own rules in a world that doesn't accept you.
