Remember When?
Remember when our parents thought they were going to make the world perfect for us
Remember when the world was going to be safe by the time we were ten years old
Remember when the scary things disappeared because mommy would fix it
Remember when growing up to be President Princess was the simplest career path
Do you remember?
Those days when we went to school not thinking about if we
would be the next statistic for which candles are lit and roses are laid
The times when we climbed our favorite trees and it never occurred to us
that their family would be our next farmfield and the lives we called our forest friends
would be the compost
Turns out our parents tried their best, but they are old and weary now
We have to pick up the fight, and make the world perfect for them,
so they can see their dream completed, and our children don’t have to watch the battle
Turns out the scary things that mommy made disappear, were just lying in wait
Turns out President Princess can’t fix everything
Remember when we didn’t have to worry about it
That’s over now
Let’s get to work
