broken star
my hand is in yours,
across the car
you’re holding the moon;
your eyes are the stars.
i turn the music up,
it drowns out the sound
of my heart
my eyes are closed.
you turn the music down,
you’re thinking aloud,
the future is bright;
your eyes are the stars.
i don’t want to hear it now,
i just want to want this,
you holding the moon;
our eyes, the stars
i turn the music up,
maybe it’ll charge my heart enough
to beat to yours.
can’t my eyes be the stars?
–––––––
we kiss,
you feel the spark;
why can’t i?
i deepen the kiss,
grabbing for scraps,
hoping to feel something.
but the truth –
i can’t feel it anymore.
why can’t i?
maybe it’s our past
that holds my heart for ransom
maybe it’s my future
blinding me with its light
but one thing is for sure –
i am not in love anymore.
i’m sorry my eyes can’t be stars.
i don’t know what’s wrong with me
believe me,
it breaks my heart.
don’t let me take your light.
i may not be the moon,
but your eyes are beautiful stars.
