If I Had Wings
If I had wings
I could taste the sky
And brush clouds from my feathers.
If I had wings I could reach
The moon
And gather stardust in a velvet bag.
If I had wings
I could soar away from my dreams
Because i would finally be real.
If I had wings
I could run away
To the wind and drown my thoughts
In the noise.
If I had wings the world would be a cloudy marble
That I
Could tuck safely into my pocket.
If I had wings I could hide from everyone
Without being pulled away
From the safety of shadows.
But wings are a dream that live in the back of skull,
Fed on scraps of happiness and hope
And locked up with rusty chains.
