Golden Strings
We were tied together with golden strings
They made us inseparable, together when we were apart
the knots were moments in each memory
The jokes and laughing, the long car rides
We sang to each other under the night sky
the tangles of string echoing this sound
pulling us together impossible to untie
But they could be burned, one by one
I cried for her to stop, my tears quelling the fires,
but the damage was done and couldn't be reversed
She freed herself leaving me bound
in the golden strings, becoming dark brown
