I Wish I Were A River
The phases of the moon draw me
in and out
in from the comforting sun
and out from the threatening dark.
The pulsing of the waves pulls me
up and down
up from the dangerous waters
and down from the blissful sky.
The torrents of the wind sway me
back and forth
back from the jagged cliff
and forwards from the peaceful meadow.
I am waxing and waning
stuck between serenity and corruption
like a shifting hurricane
gliding across the unceasing ocean.
Sometimes,
I wish I were a river instead.
