I am gifted with bread,

A steel knife to cut it with,

A newspaper,

And a smooth blue mug

          - I really like coffee

I am gifted with the sound of music,

A car along the street,

And the crash of some tool

Fixing my neighbor's roof.

I am gifted with light skin,

The cool breeze from a fan,

And transparent, lacey curtains,

Shading me.

I am gifted with a pen

A piece of paper

Even a marker!

          - oops...I smudged.

I am gifted with plastic,

And gross, store-bought meat

The sound of a piano,

And a lamp to play it by.

I am gifted with reading and writing

A small yellow notebook,

And the indignance of not enough--

Space per line

          - Darn it!!!

I am gifted with uncalloused hands and feet

A little fat around my waist,

And enough food to keep it there.

I am gifted with worrying about little things

And the time to write this poem.

I am gifted with the sight of my

Self in a mirror

          - A little disappointing...

I am gifted with too many

Tiny annoyances

And not enough excitement

Having had too much to eat or drink

And not being  enough to sleep

Stepping on a Lego

Falling down the stairs

Being caught on camera

          - I was gonna pay, really!

Loving a TV show

HATING the lead actor

Texting my friend...sitting right next to me

Having a role model that isn't family

Finding an old photo

Getting a bad grade

          - Seriously, though, the goat ATE it

I am gifted with choice

I am gifted with love

And if you're reading this

So are you!

The author's comments:

Thought I'd write something wholesome while I'm feeling up about things. And when I'm down, maybe I won't be as sad. I hope you won't be either. Love is everywhere. It will sneak up on you, but you can't grab at it or it will slip away. Have a good day!
