Taj Mahal, a Ballad
In the magnificent city of Agra
Stands a monument, proud and tall
A symbol of love, eternal and pure
It ensnares, and yet sings of freedom
You are loved and yet you are lonesome
Nothing can compare to the magic
Created by the Taj and its story, a tragic
In the magnificent city of Agra
Shah Jahan saw the beautiful Arjumand
And he fell in love at first sight
Soon Arjumand became his wife, but not until after a long long fight
Shah Jahan, he took over the throne in the Agra fortress
And named his beloved, Mumtaz Mahal, Jewel of the Palace
He ruled his empire, and all things prospered
The time was the Golden Age, but soon it all began to plunder
Mumtaz fell ill, after the birth of their child
On the brink of death, the situation was not mild
In the town of Burhanpur, she took her last breath
The Jewel of the Palace was whisked away by death
In the palace he locked himself and mourned
Even after two years, he was worn and torn
To preserve their love, he built a monument
That would last centuries, ancient and elegant
Twenty thousand men from across the continent
Thirty two thousand elephants from matured to delinquents
Together they worked for twenty two years straight
Building a masterpiece, which many would soon come to appreciate
The Taj Mahal with its magnificent marble walls
With a round white dome and many halls
A reflecting pool that stretches with water, crystal clear
Catching beautifully the way the Taj Mahal appears
In the magnificent city of Agra
Stands a monument, proud and tall
A symbol of love, eternal and pure
It ensnares, and yet sings of freedom
You are loved and yet you are lonesome
Nothing can compare to the magic
Created by the Taj and its story, a tragic
