Me, You, and My Careful Heart
I was picking up the pieces,
My eyes focused on the ground,
Where jagged pieces of my heart,
Were lying, fragile, all around,
You were a hand on my shoulder,
Pulling me away from the mess,
From all the tears and sleepless nights,
And all the kisses I had missed,
I looked up into your eyes,
But still held you at arms length,
Even when you gave me a reason to laugh,
I couldn't fall, you had to wait,
I had let go too many times,
Only to find myself back at square one,
I needed some proof that you were real,
That you weren't just a ghost of love on the run,
Now time has gone by,
And my heart is still a little sore,
But I think I'm ready to try again,
Slowly open a long shut door,
So I'll take a leap of faith,
Cause you've proved that you will catch me,
And me, you and my careful heart,
Will have a happy ending,
