Nautical Wheeler
One day I’ll buy a boat
And float away to sea
Cast eyes to worlds remote
With all intent to be
I’ll trade all of my hard-earned cash
For a chip-painted wreck
To marry my palms to a braided rash
To undulate my soles to a deck
I’ll gain more glints into my eyes
From each wave’s crested pyres
I’ll breathe in full the cold night skies
Steal peeks at fabled fires
I’ll talk to fins and morse code scales
Privy to secrets of the deep
And rock to whispers of lulling sails
And sleep at the galaxy’s feet
And on the day land comes about
And the journey is threatened to end
I’ll pull the ropes and sail back out
Never touching earth again.
