Old Man Withers
With all things considered,
I’m not as hopeless as yesterday,
Just Old man Withers, so withered,
With nothing nice to say,
I remember when I was young,
Never knew the meaning of something,
A young boy so dumb,
Never held onto anything,
I knew that my day would come
When I rise above everything
And get respect from everyone,
As royal as a king
That has absolutely no one,
But, with all things considered,
I’m not as hopeless as yesterday,
Just Old man Withers, so withered,
With nothing nice to say,
Whenever I was on the couch,
She always had something to fight about-
So every night we fought a lot,
At each other’s throats-
Because we ran out of things to talk about,
Then I’d shout at the neighbors
When they talk about how loud
We got,
“But what do we got?”
She always asked,
And those questions stole my train of thought,
But it wouldn’t last
Until I told her that I wanted out,
Because I’m just so reckless with my word
Of mouth
But I’ll be
Who I’ll be
And who I always was,
The one who believes that he sees
But he never does,
In a theater with three seats
Made just for us,
You, me and the child that never was,
If life was not about you
But the ones you touched,
Not much about me
But the ones I trust,
And not really what you can
But the things you must,
Then we should be born with our purpose
In our very clutch,
The plans and the details
With the such and such,
And even that would overcome the most of us.
Realizing with my life here at its cusp,
That if I’m as tough as nails
Then I’m made to rust,
And despite as invincible as I thought I was,
I was never really there until I turn to dust.
