City Lights
I was held in the arms of solace...
I was kept in the sight of sanctity,
I have never been so sure of my path,
As when those city lights shone on me.
I knew that I had made it,
I knew it was meant to be,
I danced and sang to my heart’s content,
When those city lights shone upon me.
I saw through all this darkness,
I pushed away the shrubbery,
I made it out of the forsaken land
As soon as those city lights shined on me.
I felt the warmth of a lover,
I hear the beauty I could be,
I embraced the one I am becoming,
While those city lights shined on me.
Now I wait in hopes of changes,
For the day when my family can see,
The way God lets me be beautiful,
As those city lights shine upon me.
I sit here in the darkness,
I collapse here, on my knees...
Hoping for just another day
With those city lights shining on me.
Just one more sweet summer day,
Just another moment to be free...
Just another year to go,
Until those city lights will shine on me.
