I Know You’re There
The lights remain out,
Little mice scamper about,
And the chains on my wrists don’t slack one bit,
And on top of the stairs, people have a fit,

Through the cracked window I see the moon,
And inside of my head begins a tune,
A tune that you taught me ‘fore I was chained away,
In this wretched cellar where I can’t see the day,

Though we were separated, Love,
We are still the two doves,
Who will forever fly, and fly as one
When I get out my dear, we’ll have our fun.

But until then I’ll write about you.
And you’ll read it, since I sent it to-
The writer of our town’s own news print,
But please, dearie, don’t break into sprint,

I can’t be taken early or danger is upon me,
And I know you’d hate being forced to see-
Your own love’s head fall to the gravel.
So have a life, maybe try travel.

When I get out of this hell, you’re first to know.
Whether rain or shine, hail or snow,
I’ll run fast as the wind to our little home,
With walls of stone and a straw made dome.

But until then Sweetheart,
Maybe you could run my cart?
And me, I’ll wait here in the cell keeper’s care,
And I’ll wait happily, because I know you’re there.
