Hide and seek
after Daniel Beaty
As a kid I played a game with an Unknown father
I came out looking for him
he was hiding.
Five years later on my fifth birthday
I was told there would be a special guest.
At that time I thought the special guest was going to be
The Red Power Ranger
My favorite color was Red. I used to fight like Jason Lee Scott.
I grew up thinking that power ranger was mommy's boyfriend.
The special guest was suppose to be the man I was looking for 5 years ago.
But there was something about this man
he was really good at this game
Hide and Seek.
Five years later on my tenth birthday
I thought this was going to be the year
DOUBLE DIGITS
I really thought he was going to show up
but he did not
That night of my tenth birthday
My friends came to a conclusion
To play hide and seek
I was picked to go seek and I found
That year I started noticing
I am not bad at the game
Hide and Seek
My father was just a phenom
Last wednesday on my seventeenth birthday
Hide and Seek was no longer a game
It was reality
No longer a kid
I realized Hide and Seek was a cover up
He is still hiding, and I am no longer seeking

What inspired me to write this poem is because I never had a father in my life. When I was younger I always wanted to know who he was. when I got older I recognized that finding out who my father was not important anymore.
