Pomology
(The study of fruit)
Walking into the grocery store,
I see goods I like, and some I deplore.
I see carmine, amber, and jasmine fruit...
and also see callow, azure, and violet fruit.

I see carmine—
apples, members of the rose family.

I see amber—
oranges, brought by Christopher Columbus to America in 1493.

I see jasmine—
lemons, producing in California, Arizona, and Brazil.

I see callow—
avocados, single-seeded berries mistaken as a vegetable.

I see azure—
blueberries, protecting humans from memory loss.

I see violet—
grapes, minimizing the risk of heart attacks.

Walking into the grocery store,
I see goods I like, and some I deplore.
Nature’s marvelous gift to humankind.
I won’t pick just one and can’t make up my mind—

sweet, bitter, and vined.
