Favorite Quote:
It's in impossibility that miracles exist.

You bumped your head on the edge of an age
And the twists of your life got too big for the stage
And you tumbled in curtains and jumbled up time
Until even breathing seemed living a crime

Here came the doubts while you wished upon stars
How long 'till you find that you're stuck where you are
And every solution's too much to ask for
The answers, you ask (yet the questions, ignore)

Why can't you count on your own sunny days?
"Your hopes are too high" is the cynic's refrain
Yet never give in when the truth sounds like lies
There's two things they can't touch:
The soul and the sky.

The letters all spilled off the edge of the page
No rhyme and no reason, just sorrow and rage
The air in the mountains as much as the climb
Will hurt until summits seem stolen by grime

Here came the doubts while you wished upon stars
How long 'till you find that you're stuck where you are
And every solution's too much to ask for
The answers, you ask (yet the questions, ignore)

Why must ignorance always be bliss?
The dream's too naive for the world that exists
Yet never give in even though you can't fly
There's two things they can't touch:
The soul and the sky.

See their sweet breath in the air in the cage
So tired and cold for this war to wage
Giving it quarters and getting back dimes
Wishing their lives were still nursery rhymes

Here came the people who wished upon stars
They smiled and knocked and helped find where you are
Every solution's too much to ask for
And yet they're still trying to open the door

And though they can't count on their own sunny days
Their hopes much too high for the cynics to take
Ignorance might not be their brand of bliss
Their dreams are not meant for the world that exists

Never give in when the truth sounds like lies
Never give in even though you can't fly
It's a cynical world that you might just defy
'Cause sometime you'll touch them:
The soul and the sky.

The author's comments:
I've realized that as I grow older I am less certain about things I always counted on. When people say that life isn't fair now, I believe it, and not as simply as I used to.

It bothers me as I hear more and more things that make it seem like hope is naive. I can no longer say for certain that the world is a wonderful place, but I still believe in optimism.

On a whole, I just wanted to write something that was joyful in the face of cynicism, and not just joy for joy. From where I stand right now, it has more meaning that way.

It's as much of a song as a poem.
