"I am as old as I've ever been, but I'm as young as I'll ever be." -Robert O'Neill

Standing in a room

filled to top with gold

locked inside this prison

my story not yet told

Sitting in a classroom

emptying out my mind

thinking about my past

which I should have left behind

Walking down the school halls

kids making fun of me

making faces behind my back

they think I cannot see

Walking out of the woods

it's 12:00 midnight

I hear people cheer for me

when they think I've lost the fight

Death comes to me like an old friend

he says it's time to go

but earth is my first home

so I tell him no

Now here I am a lost soul

where I wonder on for days

stuck where I'm not supposed to be

this place just like a maze

So if death then comes to you

say your ready to move on

or you can keep your spirit here

and your mind then will be gone

The author's comments:

I wrote this poem in 7th grade when I was being bullied and had become depressed.  I decided to make the poem into a story so that nobody could truely understand the meaning behind it.  Now almost 4 years later Ive found this poem and have been truely inspired by the long journey that I have traveled since that time.
