Oranges
The first time I went
To public school, was 4th grade
Scared and weighted down
With school supplies.
Sienna. A new school,
Fresh paint on the walls
New carpet
Underfoot. A new teacher
Mrs. Huffard
She sent me to
The principal's office
Every single day
I got my own
Desk and chair as I sat
In the refuge of principal's office
She was as big as
An elephant. She was mean,
A veritable ferret
She hated my sister and
Me so much, my sister
Switched out of her class
Now,
Reflecting on a memory
I wonder why she
Taught a class if,
She hated the students
A teacher who hates
Students is a fish out of water
