The Locket
A golden-glazed butterfly
Hanging on a chain.
Around my neck, a treasure,
That takes away the pain.
Embedded gems and jewels,
In which it's taken part,
Of leaving behind chains
Hanging on my heart.
Though chains it is that traps me,
It also holds close hope.
To keep me from a fallin' down
This steep and weary slope.
I keep on climbing, holding on
To see that wonderfully bright sun
Over this steep mountain
Once victory has won.
That butterfly takes me away
Like a beautiful, soundless rocket
Away from the pain, as I gaze down
At the picture in my locket.
