Tattered Angel
She couldn't seem to wash the past away
So she covered it with dirt.
When she looked in the mirror she saw the filth of one day
Not fifteen years of hurt.
She was like an angel when we met.
I tried to be perfect for her
But redemption isn't always what you get.
Time and distance made us burn.
When she unleashed the fire from inside her heart
She liked the marks it gave.
At least there's feeling in being torn apart.
I wonder if she can be saved.
Seeing her beg for sensation's touch
Makes me want to show her love
Something I'll never admit to anyone
Because I've never chanced so much trust.
In the end even angels have guilt to confess.
We're our demons in talking form.
Meeting each other has been fate's cruel test.
Now we're both here tattered and worn.
She always loved too much and I haven't at all.
You'd think together we'd be complete
But she loves her pain and the dreaful fall
And I simply can't compete

It's heartbreaking to see someone you always thought was perfect change into a self-destructive tattered angel.
