I love
I love
how you start
so small
and then grow bigger,
larger,
greater,
than my body will ever
grow to be.
I wish to feel
what you feel,
see
what you see.
You grow
such fragile
leaves,
green in spring,
absorbing
the sun's glorious
rays of light.
Yellow,
orange,
then red in autumn,
you change
as you fall
into deep sleep.
You cannot
be reawakened
until the sun's return
in the spring.
Your breath gives life
to my breath.
You rid the air
of my carbon waste
and return
the oxygen I so desperately
need to live.
Your branches are home
to sweet songbirds
that reverberate
the air with joy
and peace.
