Fall's Song
The wind hums a song, slightly out of tune.
Her fingers tap the bench seat
to the beat of her namesake’s song.
The moon is not present tonight.
She wonders where he has gone,
and how long his vacation will last.
His light is missed in the dark night sky,
when streetlights outshine stars.
The wind stops to hum when
autumn’s browned, dropped, and hardened
leaves, cease their midnight dance of
tales from what is left of
summer and spring.
