Left Me Here
It’s just not the same.
For days I won’t be able to see
the faces that bring out my happiness.
I am the lock. They are my key.
4:56. They will be leaving soon.
They are only ten miles away;
by tomorrow it will be a thousand.
5:01. Are they yet on their way?
I could be there. I should be.
Just one mistake; a wave of the hand.
I dismissed it but am now haunted.
I should be there, should be there, should be, and . . . .
. . . and I’m stuck
here in solidarity.
They’re out having fun. And me?
I’m here lodged between discontent and disparity.
