Frozen Lakes and Summer Days

May 14, 2008

Thick but supple,
Frost on the window,
In a silence as cold as ice.
The lake;
frozen in supended anamation,
Is a mirror to the sunrise.
A bird takes flight,
Its mate follows.
Frozen lake,
On a Summer day.
I reach for my alarm clock,
Spinning rapidly around the cabin.
6:21 am.
My coffee is bitter.
I promise myself to buy another brand.
Barn swallows appear from a nest in the roof,
They take to air.
Daylight breaks,
Slow,
Over the frost bitten prarie:
Grass turned into frosty knives.
Frozen world,
On a summers day.
