He told them to go
Find a place
To celebrate Passover
To do it with some haste
So they prepared it
In the upper room
When it was ready they waited
For Jesus, yes that’s who
So He arrived
And being humble
He washed His friends’ feet
Which caused them to mumble
Peter did not like this
Lord I am not worthy
But Jesus said, Simon Peter
Your feet are pretty dirty
It took some time
But he gave in
They sat ‘round the table
And the meal begins
So it traditionally starts
With the wine and the bread
But then Jesus held it up
And then He said
This is my Body
Given up for you
Take it and eat it
The disciples were bemused

That’s not how it goes
But they ate anyway
Once it was passed around
Jesus had another say
This is my Blood
Shed for you and all
Take it and drink it
They didn’t understand at all
This was not like last year
And the years before
Jesus was breaking tradition
And what’s more
He says one will betray Him
Boy that caused commotion
Is it me, Lord? Surely not I!
For He was their devotion!
The y asked and pleaded
And finally He said
The one who dips his hand in the dish
Is the one you so dread
And there they all stared
As Judas dipped his parsley
In the dish that was foretold
Betray Him? Must he?
He looks up at Jesus
Realized what the deal he made meant
Go do what you have to do, Jesus said
And hopefully repent
Once Judas was gone
The tension had eased
Then Jesus said something
In which Peter was not pleased
Before the cock crows, Peter
You will deny Me three times tonight
Deny You? he asked, no way
I wouldn’t deny You, not in the slight
Then the meal had ended
And Jesus asked them to pray with Him
In the garden of Gethsemane
Where the air was sweet and the light was dim
The apostles tried to pray
Under a tree
While Jesus prayed to Father
And they fell asleep
This made Jesus angry
For He woke them many times
But he was also scared
Because he knew soon they would arrive
So they did
And in fear
Peter drew his sword
He cut off a servant’s ear
Jesus picked it up
And healed the wound
Even though He was to be killed
Very very soon
So He asked them
Why arrest Me now?
You could’ve done it earlier
When I was preaching in town
They only ignored Him
And bound His hands
Then the apostles scattered
Leaving Jesus with the damned
They first take Him
To Annas and Caiaphas the high priests
And they didn’t like Him
Not in the least
They make their decision
And send Him away
To Pontius Pilate
A Roman of that day
Now Pontius Pilate didn’t find
Jesus guilty in any way
But those priests thought otherwise
Blasphemy! they say
Jesus! Don’t You hear what they’re saying?
Do you claim yourself King of the Jews?
You say so, Jesus said
Leaving Pilate a little confused
Pilate felt sorry for Jesus
So he hatched up a plan
Hopefully it will work
Depending on Jesus’ fans
Now! he said to the crowd
You Jews have a tradition
At every Passover
We let one prisoner out of admission
Today we have Jesus
A man guilty of no evil
And also Barabbas
Criminal of murder, rape, and unjustly mingle
Will it be Jesus? he asked
Crucify Him! Crucify him!
But He has done no evil task
What about Barabbas?
Let him go! Release him!
This dirty rotten criminal?
Release Barabbas! Release him!
You want Jesus to die?
Crucify Him! Crucify Him!
Your Savior? Please tell me you lie
Crucify Him! Crucify Him!
So Pilate shrugged his shoulders
Then washed his hands
This is your doing not mine, he said
Feeling not so grand
So they took Him away
And released Barabbas
He felt pretty good
Being free at last
They took Jesus to the whipping post
To be lashed 40 times
Each time full of anguish
And utter despise
At last when that was finished
A guard found a plant with thorns
He made it into a crown
And placed it on His head the center of all gore
They bowed to Him and mocked Him
They pointed at Him and laughed
So You’re the King of the Jews?
Then save yourself, hanh!
Then the time came
To walk up to Calvary
So the soldiers lifted a log
And gave it to Jesus to carry
Before Him was a crowd
Of many many people
The soldiers’ job was to keep them back
But not because Jesus was feeble
He takes His first few paces
The wood so heavy on His shoulders
It weakens Him every step
Feeling like a bunch of boulders
For the first time He falls
He hits the ground hard
He struggles to get up
But is yanked by a guard
And as He staggers on
Jesus sees His mother
It hurts Him to see her
She loves Him and He loves her
Then Mary is pushed away
And the fight goes on
To carry that cross
That he will be nailed on not for long
Jesus grows weaker and weaker
And the guards notice
So they pull Simon from the crowd
To help Jesus and their motives
He didn’t even know the guy
But he helped out anyway
To carry the cross by His side
The blood on Jesus’ face
Mixed with sweat and grime
Covers up His divinity
From the crowd of His time
But one person steps up
To wipe His holy face
That girl Veronica
Knew Jesus was a special case
And even though
That gave Him strength
He falls again since that road He’s taken
Is quite a length
Although most are cheerful and wound up
There are the sorrowful
Three women crying for Jesus
So Jesus spoke some words meaningful
Do not weep for Me
But for your own children
And your own families!
Nearly there
He bedraggles on
Then falls thrice
Upon that ominous lawn
When they finally reach Golgotha
Place of the Skull
They strip Him of His garments
And bid on all His clothes
They then nail His wrists to the cross
Then nail His feet
They spit on Him and laugh
At His supposable defeat
As Jesus hung there
The crowd gave Him criticism beyond His due
For the sign above Him read,
Here hangs the King of the Jews
Father forgive them
For they know not what they do
Is what He said out loud
For all of us and you too
The two guys hanging
Right next to Him
Said a few words
As they hung by their limbs
Aren’t You the King of the Jews?
Aren’t you the Christ?
Get down off that cross
If you have such might
Shut up, you
Said the other
We deserve to die
But this man is a giver
This man is innocent
And yet He hangs on
Jesus, he says, please remember me
When You come into Your kingdom
So Jesus lifts His head
And at full heart with no lies
He says, today you will be
With Me in paradise
As the day drags on
The clouds grow dark
The sky turns black
No angels to hark
On a far off tree
Judas throws a rope
Put's it 'round his neck
And lets himself choke
He made Jesus' death happen
His own faithful rabbi!
Filled with guilt
He made himself die
Then Jesus looks up
And in a loud voice he cries
My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?
He breathes His last and then He dies
It begins to rain
A thunderstorm
Jesus’ body that hung there
Looking ever so forlorn
His mother comes
Full of anguish and shedding tears
Her own son dead
The pain worse than anyone could fear
Then Joseph of Arimethea
Took His body down
And put Him in his own grave
Then sealed it with a stone carved round
In there His body stayed
While His soul went to Hell
For all the people He saved
Including you as well
In there His body stayed
For three days straight
Then He rose
Not one minute late
The ground thundered
The guards shook with fear
The stone rolled away
For Jesus was near
Women were coming
Mostly named Mary
They brought perfume and oils
So the body wouldn’t decay in a hurry
But an angel stopped them
And said to them clearly
You will not find Him here
The man you love so dearly
He has risen up
Just as He had said
Then appeared Jesus
Alive from the dead
The women so joyful
Ran to tell the others
About Jesus being well
But they didn’t believe their mothers
They tried to push them away
But the women persistently insisted
He’s alive, you guys!
How could you miss it?
I won’t believe you
Until I feel the holes in Jesus’ hands
And His feet and side
Said Doubting Thomas with some offense
The women were ashamed
All they say is
Seeing is believing
You apostles are wrong, gee whiz!
Then as Jesus was walking
Into the town
He ran into some other guys
He knew before He was put down
They did not recognize Him
But invited Him to lunch
Once He broke the bread
They finally got a hunch
Now it is known
Jesus is raised
He brought back the temple
All in three days
That is what
He said before
But they didn’t see
What was in store
Now it is known
Jesus is raised
And dear Joseph
Got back his grave
For forty days more
Jesus lived on Earth
Then He went to Heaven
Body and soul His rebirth
He said he would come back
He didn’t say when
Maybe tomorrow, maybe next year
All we know is He’ll come again

The author's comments:
My dad said it sounded like a rap and my theology teacher enjoyed it. What I hope from readers is to enjoy the rhyming and hopefully look at the story of Jesus in a different perspective.

it's meant to be read like a story, kinda like Dr. Seuss.

Well, first and foremost I respsect what you did, and what you were going for. The off-beat meter gives it an interesting sound, but mostly it can be a lot more concise with it. People's opinons of poetry varry, but in my opinion this is too long. You begin to captivate the reader, but I honestly started to loose interest. Overall, what you did was wonderful, but try re-writing it shorter.
