Poppies
To some,
Elegance and beauty
Comes to mind
Upon their sight.

Delicate orange,
Soft petals,
And the sweet fragrance
On the whispering breeze.

Others take
The melancholic view,
Peering past the beauty
To discover
The darkness
In the center.
The heart of the flower,
Covered by the bright
Petals
Radiant sunshine,
That blinds the eyes,
A mask,
Like our own.

A dark heart,
Sadness hardly seen.
Sadness in the center
Of the sweet creation,
Poppies.

I saw a painting of two poppies and it inspired this poem.

I love these kinds of poems! I wrote one like this before about a bubble, and I'm trying to get it posted if you want to check it out...if it gets posted...

I really liked this poem, the way you showed that beauty can cover darkness, and theres a possibility that no one will ever see the darkness.

I love poetry, how it can compare 2 things, and the writer may be writing about 2 things, and the reader might comprehend it as two other things, which may make the poem even more beautiful!

Thanks for sharing!

GREAT!! The way you compare the petals to the center as light to dark. I thought it would be about the war, the darkness, but you managed to write about poppies and not the war. Wonderful poem!
