Gun bangs, sweat drips, lungs sting,
arms pump, fingers tingle, hips throb,
knees quiver, legs burn, feet ache.
Crowd cheers, finish line nears.
Torn muscle? “Will I ever catch up?”
Still, I crave the rush of runner’s high.
