The soft clicking of mouse pads fills the room as students put in their votes. Reporter, option 2. Treasurer, option 1. Vice President, option 3. President, option 1. Selecting the individuals who best fit the role in the student senate. While this was only for school, it still felt important. Those students put in time and work to make their promotional videos to get us to vote for them, not to ignore them. Especially when it’s only the school voting, I believe that every vote counts. This not only applies to student senate votes, but to the presidential election or any election as well. 

Presidential candidates spend time and work hard to appeal to people to get their votes. Traveling from city to city across the country to be heard. But, it seems they’re being ignored. People no longer have the enthusiasm or passion to go and vote, yet those same people complain when the person they wanted to win loses.  

People believe their one vote can’t possibly make a difference. But that’s not true. It may not make a big difference but it makes a difference. Candidates don’t travel around the country just to talk to people. They travel around to get every vote they possibly can. 

One of the key groups in elections are the new voters. They are voting for the future they want to live in and what changes they want to see. The problem is, not enough new voters are voting. As Abraham Lincoln once said, “Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.” This is why I believe that it is important for new voters to vote, because if they don’t, our future will not fit society's needs and desires.
