The Little Things
“Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.”
-Winnie the Pooh
Second grade was the year of Justin Bieber. Every girl was obsessed with him. He was amazing. It was every girl's dream to wear a shirt with him on it or get tickets to go see his concert. His songs were played on every radio station. He was the Shawn Mendes of second grade.
There was a little boy in my class, let’s call him Frankie. He was so sweet and little. He had brown hair and brown eyes. Frankie could always find a way to make me smile. I had a little crush on Frankie but I never knew if he liked me back.
The air cooled and snow began to fall. Christmas was coming up. Our teacher had just announced we would be doing secret santa. The day of secret santa arrived everyone was so eager to give and receive gifts.
Once secret santa was over Frankie pulled me over to the cubby area and said he had something to give me. He reached into his backpack. I was clueless as to what he had for me. His hand returned from the inside of his bag clutching a white Justin Bieber shirt with pink sleeves. I was so excited. I gave him a hug and carefully placed the shirt in my bag. I wore that shirt proudly for the rest of the year. It was my absolute favorite shirt.
Inevitably, the shirt grew small, wrinkles started to form and it sat in my drawer. The Bieber trend had ended his songs had gotten old and new artists came out. I never wore the shirt again. I had forgotten about it.
About three years later I remembered that day and how much it meant to me. I found the shirt and donated it. I wanted to make someone feel as happy as I did when I received the shirt.
Me and Frankie are still friends and we still talk and laugh about that day. Somethings are just too important to forget.
