A New Start
We pulled up to my new house in Detour, Michigan. I was excited to see the inside of the house. The house was a huge blue place. It had one floor and a big attic. There were porches on the front and the back of the house. The house was in town by the gas station and a chainsaw repair place. I thought to myself, I am going to like living here.
My dad, my brother and I went around the house and we opened the door. First thing I did is find my bedroom. My room was smaller than my last room. In my new house it smelled like fresh paint on the walls and the floors smelled like they were bleached. My room was the biggest of all the bedrooms in the house- I was excited
Our next step was to unpack the car. We brought in our food and clothes and we put all our things away. We didn't have a lot of things to unpack because we were living with my grandparents before we moved. We did not have a lot of furniture yet, so people started to give used furniture. They gave us beds, an oven, a lot of food, a microwave, a new fridge, and a new freezer. We got a lot of things from random people..
The same day I made new friends. My Dad, my Brother, and I were standing on the porch when a car showed up to our new home. Three people got out of the car. It was a mom and two teenage kid. They were a boy and a girl. They got out of the car and introduced themselves. Their names were Diane, Hannah and Josh. Diane was the real estate agent who found the house for us.
Diane asked, “How is everything going?
“Good,” my dad said. “Can you tell us where a good grocery store is? The one we went to did not look good. It had brown meat and bologna that was way past due.”
Diane gave us directions to a Wal-Mart in Sault Ste Marie. She told us the school we would go to in Detour was small and the middle school and high school kids go to school together. Josh said he would show my brother and me around.
As they left I was thinking about how nice the people in Detour were. My new house was going to be a nice place to stay. I was nervous about going to a new school, but I felt better after talking to Josh. I thought to myself, This is going to be a good place to live.
