It felt like I had just been stripped of a part of me that I couldn’t live without. I can’t live without my best friend. The shock made my voice and thoughts distant from my body, leaving me unable to speak or even think. I managed a weak “Your moving?” I didn’t even recognize the voice as my own.

“Yeah, I know it’s far, but I’m really excited to move. I’ve heard that Paradise, Texas is a really great place.” I heard her voice, but her words strayed off into my mind before they reached my brain, not allowing me to comprehend what I’d just heard. Her tone bothered me. Why was she so happy to leave her best friend that she was lucky enough to see every day? I didn’t understand.

I expected my disappointment to grow as she spoke, but then, everything changed. I felt excited. Maegan spoke. “We have of acres of land behind our house, we bought chickens and goats, and we’ll go pick the animals up from a farm once we get there.”

It would be nice to move to the country, away from everything. This is why I was glad to stay with Maegan the first few nights of moving in, so I could have the experience. And, honestly, I loved the quiet, peaceful feel of the vacant country town. I even loved the way I fell asleep listening to crickets chirp. It was music to my ears.

The more of the town I saw, the more in love with it I fell. I was noticing so many other positives. Since I don’t see Maegan as much, we call each other more often, and I have more fun visiting her now than I ever did. I don’t see her as frequently; however, it is a good thing because it makes me cherish the moments I spend with her. The friendship between Maegan and me as best friends is so strong that a life changing event could only make our friendship stronger.
