Snowboarding At Schuss Mountain
“Dad! Why won’t you let me get a new board?!” I yelled frustratedly.
“Sorry bud. But I don’t want to pay for a new board for you. Your snowboard you have right now is fine anyway.” My dad said.
To tell the truth... my snowboard really wasn’t fine. It sucked. I bought it used and it was my first board. I hated that board and I didn’t express it till now... The day after Thanksgiving. It was chipped, scratched, dented and everything inbetween. That board went through everything from being scraped across rails, slamming onto the ground after jumps, and even being dropped off of my loft onto the cement floor. That board was so beaten up.
“Justin! Nick! Sam! Get in the car!” My dad hollered.
“One sec!” I yelled back. I ran into my room and grabbed some money just in case my dad would let me buy a new board while we were snowboarding at Schuss Mountain. I hopped in the car and we were off! On our way to a week of snowboarding paradise!
It felt like the longest ride ever but it was only about 3 hours and we met some friends and family on the way there. So that made the ride a little better because Joel Vanoeffelen and Jake Alt got to ride with us so it was pretty fun the rest of the way. The whole ride I kept asking my mom, “How long until we are there?”
She would never give me a straight answer, “About four days!”
We pulled into the parking lot of our condo which was huge and we brought everything inside. “Finally! We are here!” I shouted as I jumped onto my king size bed.
I walked out onto the back patio which was right at the top of Summit Hill. It was really big and there were a lot of condos and a big lodge right at the top.
“Justin! Shut the door! I’m freezing!” Nick chattered while laying on the couch, next to the fireplace, bundled up in a big fuzzy blanket.
“Oops! Sorry.” I exclaimed.
The next day we had a short five minute drive over to Schuss Mountain where we bought super passes which lasted you the whole day so you could snowboard a lot! There were so many different slopes and chairlifts all over! But before we started walking over to the chairlifts, my dad said “Why don’t we go check out the store and see if they have anything cool!?”
“Okay!” Nick and I said in unison.
We walked into the store and looked around. My dad kept showing me boards and asking “How ‘bout this one?” But in the back of my mind I had a board picked out already. It was a yellow and blue 2012 Burton Custom that I found earlier that week online. I was about ready to leave when... BAM! My dad pulls out the exact same board that I picked out online that was two hundred dollars and it was the perfect size too! And then I thought... well, I need some bindings, which you clip your feet on to the board with. So I picked out these awesome black and silver Burton Freestyle bindings. And then I found really cool Anon goggles that had a Fire Iridium lens. The lens was mirrored so you couldn’t see my eyes and they were awesome!
When we were standing in line waiting to checkout, I remembered that I was going to help pay for half of the cost!
“Dad! I forgot my money! I was going to help you pay for some of the board!” I said in a hurry.
“It’s fine. I will pay for it. It’s an early Christmas present!” He said happily.
“Thanks dad.”
“No problem.”
We walked out of the store and out to the slopes. Me and Nick hopped onto the yellow chairlift which brings you to the top of a really awesome terrain park with lots of rails like C rails, flat downs, butter boxes, rainbow rails and many others. There were also a couple kickers which are small jumps. At the bottom of the hill there was a really big jump and I finally got the courage to hit it!
“Watch me 3 this jump!” I yelled to nick as I started down the hill towards the jump. Flying past all of the rails I finally got to the jump with lots of speed. I got to the lip of the jump and popped up into the air doing a full 360 degree spin and sticking the landing making it my first 360!
I got back to the lodge and told my parents that I just did my first ever 360! I felt so accomplished and I could tell my parents were totally jealous!
The next day was our last day of snowboarding and I went on the purple chairlift and went on the terrain park on the purple and also the halfpipe. The I went on the green, red, and pink lifts and raced down the hills. Then it was time for the blue lift, to ride on “Goosebumps” which was the steepest and fastest hill I have ever rode down. My brother and I slowly went down the start of the hill and then.... The hill just dropped straight down and it was really high up! But there was no turning back now! We started going down picking up speed and feeling the wind blowing at us feeling like it was going to blow us to the ground and it almost did! We finally got to the bottom after seemingly going 100 miles per hour! we stopped to the lodge and it was time to leave. My mom and dad already had the car all packed up, so me and Nick hopped into the car and we left feeling sadness that we were leaving but also feeling happy because of our accomplishments and our new boards. We would never forget Schuss Mountain.
