Bitter Berry

I’ve always hated strawberries. I couldn’t fathom feeling the texture of a wet rubber ball and enjoying it. The flavor is even worse. It overpowers an entire smoothie’s flavor. Much like how this person overpowered my feelings. Or perhaps they overpowered my life. I don’t love this person. Sure I once did, but loving them would only add to my regret. When making a smoothie, you carefully pick out ingredients you think would suit the overall flavor. It’s my fault for choosing a person that was not suitable for my life. Instead of choosing a banana maybe for balance, I chose a strawberry. I thought it’d be fun to add a unique ingredient. Maybe try something new? Go outside my boundaries! I took the risk and immediately regretted it. My smoothie is ruined. Its constant sweet and sugary flavor was thrown off with this one wrong ingredient. It’s time to learn from my mistakes, right? I shouldn’t add a strawberry this time, but maybe last time it had just gone bad. Maybe I should give strawberries another try. Except for this time I receive an even worse smoothie. How come I keep returning to the strawberries when I know the outcome will be the same? I can’t keep expecting them to taste different, can I? No, and I won’t. This person, my “strawberry”, had a favorite fruit. Can you imagine what it might be?

I wrote this piece in my eighth-grade writing class under the top, "What Food Are Closely Linked To Someone You Love?". I took a different approach to the assignment. This is meant to be a hypothetical relatable piece.
