What happened to the summertime?
Everything breezing by and the hot air smooth along the sky.
Summer’s sky is the blanket in the back of the closet.
The one you can almost never find, because it only stays out for a short time.
I feel its warmth along my spine, and smell the spring rain that waves good-bye.
Watercolor sunsets and whipped clouds are the scene of every picture in the gallery of summer.
Everything seems hazy and all your thoughts seem just as spontaneous and jubilant as the air.
But then it is all gone and you are left with the countdown of months until it’s back again and dozens of photographs splattered with chlorine.
As the nights grow hollow and the stars stay silent and winter tiptoes in,
I will wonder all of my life,
What happened to the summertime?
